🛡️ Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information ChatSeed ("we", "our", "us") collects when you use our mobile application, web application, and website at chatseed.com (collectively, the "Service"), how we use it, and what choices you have.

By using ChatSeed you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.

📋 Data we collect

Account identifier

Your account identity is derived from your Ethereum wallet address. This address is a public identifier on the blockchain. We store it on our servers solely to route messages and calls to the correct recipient.

Username & avatar

If you choose to set a display name or profile picture, we store that information on our servers so your contacts can identify you. Both are entirely optional.

Message metadata

We store the minimum metadata required to deliver and display messages: sender wallet address, recipient channel ID, timestamp, and message type. Message content is stored encrypted at rest.

Technical & diagnostic data

• IP address (used for rate-limiting and abuse prevention; not linked to your identity)
• Device type and OS version (collected by Expo/EAS for crash reports, if you have consented)
• Crash logs via Sentry (stack traces only — no message content, no wallet data)

Push notification tokens

If you grant notification permissions, we store your device push token to deliver message and call notifications. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings.

🚫 Data we never collect

• No phone number or email address — ever
• No KYC or identity verification data
• No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
• No browsing history or cross-app tracking
• No financial data beyond on-chain transactions you initiate yourself

🔑 Your wallet & seed phrase

Crypto transactions are signed locally on your device and broadcast directly to the blockchain network. ChatSeed servers are never involved in transaction signing. We cannot move, freeze, or access your funds under any circumstances.

If you lose your seed phrase or device without a backup, your wallet cannot be recovered. This is by design — it means no one else can recover it either.

⚙️ How data is used

We use the limited data we collect strictly to operate and improve the Service:

• Message & call delivery — routing messages and real-time calls to the correct recipients via WebSocket
• Presence & typing indicators — showing online status and typing state to channel members
• Push notifications — alerting you to new messages and incoming calls when the app is in the background
• Abuse prevention — IP-based rate limiting to prevent spam and denial-of-service attacks
• Crash diagnostics — anonymous stack traces to fix bugs and improve stability

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or commercial profiling purposes — ever.

🔗 Third-party services

ChatSeed uses the following sub-processors to operate the Service. Each is bound by its own privacy policy:

• Cloudflare — CDN, DDoS protection, and WebRTC Calls SFU. Cloudflare may process IP addresses and call metadata. Privacy policy ↗

• Sentry — Crash reporting. Only stack traces and device metadata are transmitted — no message content or wallet data. Privacy policy ↗
• Railway — Cloud infrastructure hosting. Servers are located in the United States. Privacy policy ↗

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising network.

🔔 Push notifications

Push notifications are delivered via Expo Push Notification Service, which relays to Apple APNs (iOS) or Google FCM (Android). The content of push notifications for messages is limited to the sender's display name and a generic "New message" body — message text is never included in the notification payload.

You can disable push notifications at any time in your device Settings → Notifications → ChatSeed. Disabling notifications does not delete your account or affect message delivery while the app is open.

🗓️ Data retention

• Messages — stored indefinitely to power message history. You can delete individual messages; deletion is permanent and propagated in real time.
• Push tokens — retained until you log out or revoke notification permissions.
• IP logs — rate-limit counters expire after 24 hours and are never written to long-term storage.
• Crash logs — retained by Sentry for 90 days.
• Account data — if you delete your account, your wallet address, username, and avatar are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

✅ Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR for EU residents and CCPA for California residents), you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Object to or restrict processing
• Data portability (receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Because we do not collect your name, email, or phone number, we may ask you to verify your identity using your wallet address.

👶 Children

ChatSeed is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

📝 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will notify you via an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
